For many years, a flannel shirt held little to no appeal for me. A flannel shirt was not an article of clothing that I could see myself wearing and being excited to style. Additionally, I couldn’t imagine it being worn any other way but casual. Since I’m pretty much extra all the time, flannel shirts were not an option I’d consider. That is until I began blogging and posting on social media. Opening my eyes to new possibilities outside of my norm has been exciting. It is always one of my recommendations to try new things even if you’re stepping outside of your comfort zone and norm. You just might be surprised what you discover you like. Flannel shirts fit that category for me. I have always liked plaid and fun colors. Today flannel shirts come in many color combinations and many styles so you’re bound to find at least a few that you like. Here is how I took one flannel shirt and styled it multiple ways from fancy to casual! Let’s start with fancy! My favorite!
Flannel Shirt Look 1
Since we’re are in the midst of December and the holidays, a classic black and red buffalo plaid flannel seemed like a perfect choice! I love any reason to pull out my tulle skirt so pairing these together seemed like a fun, fancy idea. I’ve added tights and my matching kitten heels pumps. A statement necklace adds interest and elevates the look. If you wanted, you could also add a belt. The best part is that this outfit is not only holiday ready it’s also super comfy!
Flannel Shirt Look 2
Did you catch my two blogs about the faux leather trend that is going strong? (Click HERE and HERE) A flannel shirt will pair great with faux leather skirts, pants, joggers, leggings and here with my faux leather shorts. You can see I kept the same elements from look 1 and traded my skirt for my shorts. If you live in a colder climate like I do, wearing tights helps to keep you warm. If you’re in a warmer climate, you easily wear the shorts without tights. You could also roll up the sleeves and add tennis shoes instead of heels for a more casual look. How cute are these…
Flannel Shirt Look 3
You can add a blazer or jacket with the flannel shirt in order to create a more tailored look. To make the look more festive, you could add a velvet blazer or even think sequins for a fancier holiday look but keeping it tailored. I love this fringy jacket that has been in my closet for quit some time. It’s cuddly and extra warm. It would also be easy to trade my faux leather shorts out for a pair of black dress pants.
Flannel Shirt Look 4
Flannel shirts go great with jeans and faux leather leggings. These leggings are THE BEST and are under $20! I have more expensive pairs and these are my absolute favorites! They don’t roll, stay in place, hold me in just right and are super duper comfy! Leggings or jeans and a flannel are always an easy styling option. To keep it kind of festive, I layered my flannel over a holiday t-shirt. My holiday t-shirt says “Merry and Bright”. I liked the matching trees in plaid and checks. I matched my socks and added a fun sparkly pair of boots.
