Introducing: Forever Fierce Blogger Eugenia Russell Hargrove
The Age of Grace
This weeks blog is a collaboration between some of the Original Fierce Fifty members. (FTF has done previous collaborations with Ask Suzanne Bell and How We Wear Hats.)
I’m pleased to introduce you to Eugenia of The Age of Grace.
About Eugenia:
Eugenia has lived in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania since 1982. She grew up in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Eugenia is 62 years BOLD; and will turn 63 in September. Married since September 8, 1984. She has two adult children; daughter, Channing, and son, Tyler. Eugenia’s daughter is a fashion writer for Refinery 29 in New York City. Her son lives and works in the Harrisburg area. Eugenia has a B.S. degree in Business Marketing with a minor in Textiles. She has worked in the pharmaceutical industry as a rep since 1997.
Blogging:
Eugenia started blogging January 2013. She saw a void for women over the age of 50. The focus of her blog, The Age of Grace, is on women aging gracefully, fashionable, and healthy. Since she works full-time, she usually blogs once a week unless she has a collaboration then it’s twice a week.
Fashion:
Eugenia describes her sense of fashion as feminine chic. She enjoys the classic black and white movies from the 40s, 50s, and 60s. “I know watching these film noir flicks and my background in textiles affects my inspiration for putting together outfits.”
Beauty:
When Eugenia started to go through menopause, she began to get monthly facials because of a bout with adult acne. Over the last ten years, she also added retinol with her nighttime routine.
The most critical addition/change in Eugenia’s beauty regiment is using SPF. “As a woman of color, I understood the need to protect my skin especially since I work outside most of the time traveling to medical offices.”
Health/Weight:
Eugenia maintains her weight mostly by walking every day and using a weighted hula hoop.
Recently, she started doing yoga.
Challenges Over 50:
The challenges that Eugenia has faced as a woman over 50 has mainly been the fact that the pharmaceutical industry is mostly people that don’t look like her. “I’m thankful to survive 20 + years.”
Fashion Advice:
Eugenia’s first advice to women over the age of 50 who want to be more fashionable as the advance in age is to be yourself and wear what’s best for your body type. If you know and dress your body type, you will wear what works for that type.
There are a few universal style themes she recommends:
♦ Dressing in one color lengthens one
♦ A dress/skirt in the middle of the knee is great for nearly everyone
♦ If you can swing a pointy-toe shoe, it elongates the leg
♦ V-Neck looks great on everyone
♦ Don’t be matchy-matchy, be more interesting to add color and texture especially with accessories
FTF thinks you’ll agree that Eugenia is a well accomplished classic, chic beauty! Links to follow Eugenia:
